Frequently Asked Questions

Can you see through window film?
Our window film comes in solid or custom designs. Window frosting makes your window opaque, not allowing people to see in.
Does window film make a space darker?
Window frosting makes your window opaque, not allowing people to see in while allowing up to 95% of light to come into the area, unless you have a design cut out the vinyl.
Can window film help save energy?
Yes. According to U.S. Department of Energy statistics, solar heat gain through windows is responsible for about one third of a building’s cooling costs. Window film that reduces solar heat gain can relieve overworked cooling systems, lowering energy use and bills. Some film has insulating properties, for help with heat retention in colder seasons. Ultimately, energy cost savings depend on factors such as type of glass, existence of overhangs, climate and local energy rates.
Does window film help make a space feel cooler?
Yes. Some window film helps reduce the amount of heat transferred into a room through its windows.
Can window film protect glass in extreme weather?
Yes, if the film covers all of the window. The film helps hold broken glass together, reducing the risk of small pieces flying through the air. This film will help you sleep better at night if you have concerns about extreme weather, break-ins or vandalism.
Does the window film require special cleaning products or solutions?
We recommend you use dishwash liquid mixed with water and a soft cloth, no chemicals.
Does your products have warranties/guarantees?
Yes. 3-5 year manufacture guarantee and a week on the application.
How long does window film last?
The lifespan of the product depending on the product selected, however most last many years before needing to be removed/replaced. The lifespan also depends on the environment the vinyl experiences daily.
Is it easy to remove window film?
It takes some elbow grease but window film can be removed without causing any damage to the glass it was installed on, even after staying in place for years.
Where can widow film be installed?
Any flat glass can have window film applied to it. For example Glass doors, Glass door panels, Glass kitchen cabinet door panels, Mirrors, Glass shower doors, Windows, Entrance areas, Glass shelving, Glass desks / tables, Bathrooms, Bedrooms, Sunrooms, Patios, Kitchens, Room dividers, Architectural Glass – Glass area’s, Shop windows, Glass writing boards, Meeting rooms, Break-out areas, Entrance windows for buildings, Parking lot windows, Reception areas, Office entrances, Glass partitioning in open-plan offices, Boardrooms, Smoking or kitchen areas of restaurants, Branded mirrors in bars, Public bathrooms in shopping malls, Staff bathrooms, Stacking doors, Sliding doors to name a few.
Does window film go on the inside or outside of the window?
Film is almost always installed on the inside of a window. However, there are exceptions. When an area is difficult to access, a film designed specifically for exterior application will be used.
Is window film expensive?
A film upgrade for existing building windows is typically only a fraction of the cost for full window replacement. Savings depend on the particulars of each situation, and can vary.

Can window film be applied to Plexiglass or plastic windows?
No. Standard window films should not be applied to acrylic or polycarbonate (Plexiglass) windows. These are plastic sheeting products which all have the potential to outgas. Outgassing is known as the release of chemical components or moisture absorbed by the plastic. When outgassing occurs it interferes with the window film’s adhesive and results in bubbling between the window and the window film.
Can I fit window film myself?
Yes you can however if you are able to, we highly recommend that you get a experienced installer to fit the film.
Do window films cause glass to break?
Glass breaks when stressed. There are five types of stress which may cause glass breakage:
Thermal Stress – from absorption of solar radiation
Tensile Stress – from the weight of the glass itself
Mechanical Flexing Stress – from wind
Impact Stress – from flying objects
Twisting Stress – from building or window frame sagging or settling
Thermal stress is the only one which film may affect. Window films will increase the thermal stress on glass exposed to sun however, there are also other factors which will increase thermal stress such as: partial shading of windows from overhangs, tightly fitting drapes or blinds, signs or decals on windows, heating and cooling vents directed at glass. Different types of glass have different solar absorption rates and will withstand different degrees of thermal stress.
Is window film scratch resistant?
Our window film is hard waring and scratch resistant to a point, we do not recommend using any abrasive products on the window film.
How should I clean the window frosting after application?
A mix of soapy water and a soft cloth should be used. No abrasive products or power washers.
Will window film affect my indoor plants?
Window film can actually help your indoor plants by blocking out solar rays, reflecting heat and reducing the indoor temperature.
Can damaged window film be repaired?
Damaged window film cannot be repaired, but the damaged piece of window film can be removed and new window film installed.
How to install? (DIY)
Please note DIY applications will always have application instructions.
1. Clean the areas to which the film is to be applied, removing all traces of dirt, grime, grease, etc.
2. Carefully measure the height and width of the glass surface. Oversize the film up to 1cm extra material on each side of the film and cut the film to this size.
3. Create your own wetting solution by adding a few drops of dish detergent into a 1L spray bottle filled with water.
4. Lay the cut to size decorative film on a clean flat surface with the release liner up, or have someone hold the piece to be applied for you. Remove the backing paper / release liner and spray the now exposed adhesive surface thoroughly with the wetting solution. Apply a generous amount of the wetting solution to the glass. The wetting solution prevents the film from sticking to the surface immediately, thereby allowing you more time in which to properly position the film.
5. Place the now wet film onto the clean glass surface. Wet the face of the film to be squeegeed. Use the plastic card squeegee and squeegee from the centre out towards the edges to remove any air bubbles and wetting solution. Double check that the film is flat and smooth with no remaining air bubbles and water.
6. If any bubbles are not removed after Step 4, then squeegee them out towards the closest edge.
7. Trim the excess film from the edges of the surface. It is ideal to cut in one continuous movement, using the ruler and razor knife. Use the paper towels or an old clean towel for cleaning the glass surface and for the absorption of excess wetting solution around the edges.
8. The film may take a few days to dry in order for it to completely adhere to the glass surface.
Additional installation tips1. Check the glass to make sure the surface is smooth.
2. Spray the glass with soapy water and use a single edge razor blade to shave the surface.
3. There should be no “clicking” sounds from the glass as the blade passes across the surface.
4. Make sure the water is clean and use a new spray bottle. Do not use well water. Do not use hand soap.
5. The glass must be sprayed and squeegeed clean and not wiped.
6. Fingers should be dipped in water and rinsed before handling the film after the liner is removed.
7. The surrounding area should be clean with no fans or wind blowing.
8. A good squeegee is needed to squeegee all the water from behind the film.
Precautions1. The surface to which the film will be applied should be very clean, free of dirt, dust particles and silicone. Make sure there are no dry spots on the film prior to placing it onto the glass.
2. Take care that when removing the release liner / backing paper from adhesive backed films that the film does not roll over onto itself. It will stick together and is difficult to pull apart. Wet the film as the liner is removed!
Tip to remove liner / backing paper1. Film liner - To separate the liner from the film take two pieces of scotch tape and stick them opposite each other at one corner then pull these two pieces of tape apart and the liner will separate from the film the liner is a clear plastic sheet. The adhesive surface will now be exposed. Wet this adhesive surface. Do not let the film fall upon itself as it will stick if not wet and it will be hard to separate!
2. Backing paper pull the vinyl away from the backing paper its stuck to. The adhesive surface will now be exposed. Wet this adhesive surface. Do not let the film fall upon itself as it will stick if not wet and it will be hard to separate!
Seaming Films
For windows that are wider than the available width of 1200mm or 1500mm films, Industry standards allow for seaming. Standard Installation for seaming is a butt-join type seam. The films are overlapped and cut through with a sharp blade using a straight edge. The excess films are removed. A slight light line may appear. This is normally the width of the blade point. This is acceptable.
General
Since a particle-free application is possible only under sterile conditions, there may be small amounts of dust or grit caught between the film and glass. There may be a small amount of water left behind the film, particularly with the thicker films. Please be patient. Within approximately 60-90 days, this water will evaporate through the film.
